Summary
I was walking home from a Halloween party and filming a short clip for TikTok—just the pumpkins glowing along the Micheltorena stairs and some neighborhood decorations. About halfway up, my phone light caught a group of kids, maybe ten to twelve years old, sitting completely still on one of the wider steps. There were six or seven of them, all wearing plain white masks and dark clothes. No talking, no movement, no phones. Just sitting there, staring straight ahead.
I kept recording as I climbed, assuming it was a local art thing or prank. When I reached the top and turned to film the view, they were standing now—lined up, facing me. None of them had moved while I was watching through the screen, but suddenly they were closer. The streetlight flickered and the reflection on their masks seemed to bend the light instead of reflecting it.
Then the video glitched—a burst of white static for about two seconds. When the picture came back, the steps were empty. The audio kept recording though, and there’s a low mechanical hum that rises and falls, almost like breathing through a vent.
When I went back the next morning, there were streaks of dried muddy footprints halfway up the stairs that stopped abruptly at the same step where they’d been standing. I know how this sounds, but I swear the video is real.
Every time I watch it, the static hits right when they look at me.
